Patisserie’s Earl Grey Wins Award at Great Taste 2016

Stuart and Gillian Turner at BatchelorsAn Earl Grey blend that was originally developed for a renowned Cliftonville Patisserie scooped a Guild of Fine Foods Great Taste Awards this year.

Debonair Tea Company created the blend, now more widely available in their range as Extreme Earl, for Stuart and Gillian Turner, proprietors of Batchelors Patisserie, when they introduced a new loose leaf tea offering to the bakery.

The distinctive Earl Grey flavour is derived from the oil of Bergamot, a citrus fruit grown predominantly in Southern Italy.

Stuart, himself a tea lover, wanted a very punchy bergamot flavour for their Earl Grey which we achieved with the introduction of a gorgeous organic bergamot oil.

This was Debonair Tea Company’s first year entering the awards and Extreme Earl was their only entry. The judges gave the tea the following feedback:

“An honest, good tea base. The bergamot comes through well and there are clean and distinct flavours here.”
